Amputation
Every year, millions of Americans suffer from injury, disease, accidents and ulcers that can lead to amputation. Regardless of the type of amputation, our team of therapists provide the expert care you need to get better.
Immediately after amputation, exercises begin to prevent muscle atrophy. Strengthening the upper body is important to allow the amputee to walk with crutches. As the area heals, several different prosthetic sockets are made in order to accommodate the changes the stump goes through in the first year.
Our physical and occupational therapists tailor sessions to focus on functional movement and activities of daily living using your prosthesis. Through your therapy appointments, you will develop strength, confidence and restore vitality.
Using a multidisciplinary team approach, we will help you:
- Increase the time you wear your prosthesis
- Increase your overall function
- Increase your walking speed
- Reduce your fear of falling
After therapy, your evaluations/follow up care may include:
- Pain management
- Physical and occupational therapy evaluation
- Physician assessment
- Adaptive equipment
- Gait analysis
- Exercise education
- Prosthetic modification or training
We know that living as an amputee will be an adjustment. Your therapist will work with you on ongoing communication, problem solving and prosthetic modification in order to make your transition as smooth as possible.
