Wound Care
Skin ulcerations and open wounds can form quickly in people with low blood flow, decreased sensation or a low immune system. Diabetic ulcers, burns, animal bites and surgical incisions can all develop into an open skin wound. If the wound is increasing in size, and redness and pain, your doctor may send you to a physical therapist for treatment.
Our therapists are specially trained and have vast experience in wound care. They will first evaluate and measure the wound, clean it, debride (remove) any dead tissue, dress the wound and provide education to you and/or family members and caregivers on how to properly care for the wound and how to change the dressings at home.
Physical therapy may be needed daily or only once a week; the type of wound and amount of care needed will determine the number of visits that are needed.
